Another Reason to Shop Local
We all know we should be shopping local more, however we do find it tends to be easier to hit up one of those big box stores because we can get everything we need in one stop. I get it, every once in a while we ignore the voice of good conscience and reason in our head! I am writing this in hopes to convince all of us that making those extra stops is fully worth it!
Did you know?
Small businesses provide 55% of all jobs and 66% of all new jobs since the 1970s.
The 600,000 plus franchised small businesses in the U.S. provide jobs for some 8 million people.
The small business sector in America occupies 30-50% of all commercial space, an estimated 20-34 billion square feet, and that's good for the real estate market!
One of the beauties of small business "start-ups" is consumer and community loyalty; while "corporate America" has been "downsizing", the small business has dug its roots in and created a family with its employees.
Since 1990, as big business eliminated 4 million jobs, small businesses added 8 million new jobs!
Yes, the number of small businesses has increased over the decades, and the rate of failure decreased, but we can't get it in our heads that Oh, they're doing fine without me... Because if one of us thinks like that, then 10 will, then 30 etc and those stats will turn around. We have to continue to support our community and support the small business owner, and SHOP LOCAL! Plus, why should we spend our hard-earned money to buy some CEO and a bunch of share-holders a third house they may use two weeks out of the year, when we can help pay for Jane Smith's daughter's ballet lessons or her son's football uniform? Isn't knowing that's where your money is headed more rewarding?
